Four railways converge at Aigle, a junction in the lower Chablais district of the canton of Vaud carrying UIC code 8501400. Mainline trains on the Lausanne to Brig route through the Rhône valley call at the standard-gauge platforms, while three narrow-gauge lines climb from the same forecourt: to Leysin, to Le Sépey and Les Diablerets, and through Ollon and Monthey to Champéry. That fan of mountain routes makes the town the usual rail head for the Vaud Alps and for the thermal resort of Villars-Gryon above it. Aigle is also a wine town, its vineyards surrounding a castle that now houses a museum of viticulture. The station lies near 46.32 degrees north, 6.96 degrees east, in the Europe/Zürich time zone.
