Como San Giovanni is the principal railway station of Como, the northern Italian city on the southern shore of Lake Como, and the main terminus for trains arriving from Milan Centrale on the conventional main line. The station handles Trenord regional services from Milan as well as international connections to Lugano and Zurich via the Gotthard corridor, making it the main gateway for the vast numbers of tourists who visit Lake Como from Switzerland and beyond. A second city station, Como Nord Lago, serves the lakeside area more directly via the FerrovieNord suburban network, but San Giovanni handles the bulk of intercity traffic and offers the most connections.

Como San Giovanni is the main terminus station in Como, situated about a ten-minute walk from the lakefront and the departure point for ferries and hydrofoils. The historic Piazza Cavour and the cathedral are equally close.

Left-luggage lockers are available at Como San Giovanni station on the concourse. Storing your bags here is a practical option if you plan to spend the day exploring the lake by boat before continuing your journey.

Trenitalia and Le Nord regional services use Como San Giovanni, with connections to Milan Centrale and Chiasso in Switzerland. The station is the terminus for trains from Milan, and cross-border passengers can connect to Swiss destinations via Chiasso and the SBB network.

Navigazione Laghi ferries and fast hydrofoils depart from the Como lakefront to villages including Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, and Tremezzo. Day passes offer good value for exploring multiple villages, and the journey to Bellagio by ferry takes around two hours.

Note that Como has two stations — Como San Giovanni (Trenitalia/FS) and Como Nord Lago (Nord lines, closer to the lakefront) — so ensure you alight at the correct one for your journey. Silk weaving is the city's historic industry and the Silk Museum (Museo della Seta) is well worth a visit.
