Gent-Sint-Pieters is the main railway station of Ghent, Belgium's third largest city and one of the finest medieval cities in northern Europe, notable for its well-preserved historic centre and vibrant student culture. The station is an imposing Beaux-Arts structure completed in 1912 and serves as the hub for intercity trains to Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, and Courtrai, as well as international services towards Paris and Amsterdam. Trams connect Sint-Pieters to the historic city centre and the Korenmarkt within minutes, making it an exceptionally convenient gateway to the city.

Gent-Sint-Pieters is located about two kilometres south of the medieval city centre, and tram line 1 connects the station to the Korenmarkt and Sint-Baafskathedraal in around ten minutes. The walk into the centre is also pleasant if you have time, passing through the student quarter.
NMBS/SNCB Intercity trains link Gent-Sint-Pieters to Brussels Midi in around 30 minutes, where Thalys and Eurostar services connect to Paris and London. Domestic services also run to Bruges, Antwerp, and the coast, making Ghent an ideal base for exploring northern Belgium.
The station has a fully staffed ticket hall, self-service machines, and a range of shops and cafes across its recently renovated concourse. The building itself is a fine example of early 20th-century Beaux-Arts architecture and is worth a moment's attention even if you are just in transit.
Luggage lockers are available at Gent-Sint-Pieters station, making it easy to store bags and explore the city's canals, Gravensteen castle, and museums without being encumbered. Check signposting within the main hall for the exact locker location.
Ghent's Ghent Card offers unlimited tram and bus travel plus free entry to many museums including the Gravensteen and the Design Museum, and is available for one, two, or three days. The city is famous for its Thursday vegetable market and is historically the original 'veggie day' city, so plant-based dining options are particularly plentiful.
