Sion is the cantonal capital of Valais and one of the most historically significant towns in Switzerland, with its station sitting at the heart of the Rhône valley main line that connects Geneva with Brig and the Simplon Tunnel route into Italy. SBB InterCity and InterRegio services call here frequently, making Sion an accessible gateway for visitors exploring the Alpine vineyards, the ancient twin hills of Valère and Tourbillon, and the ski resorts of the surrounding mountains. The station also serves as the departure point for PostBus connections into the lateral valleys of Valais, extending rail access into some of Switzerland's most dramatic scenery.
