Besançon Viotte is the main railway station of Besançon, the capital of the Doubs department and a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its Vauban fortifications and position on a loop of the Doubs river. It is served by TGV Inouï services to Paris-Gare de Lyon, regional TER trains towards Dijon, Belfort, and the Swiss border at Pontarlier, and connects to the newer Besançon Franche-Comté TGV station on the LGV Rhin-Rhône high-speed line. Travellers should note that the high-speed TGV station is some kilometres from the city centre, whereas Viotte is the station most convenient for the old town and its watchmaking heritage museums.
