Bourg-en-Bresse is the principal railway station of the Ain department in eastern France, positioned on the TER network as a key stop on the Lyon–Geneva corridor and a hub for regional services radiating across the Bresse and Dombes plains. It connects travellers to Lyon Part-Dieu in under an hour, making it a practical base for visiting the town's celebrated Bresse poultry country and the nearby Royal Monastery of Brou. The station's modest but functional facilities serve the area's commuter and leisure traffic with regular daily departures in multiple directions.

Bourg-en-Bresse station is situated about a ten-minute walk from the historic town centre along Avenue Alsace-Lorraine. Local buses also serve the area, and taxis are available directly outside the station entrance.

Bourg-en-Bresse does not have a staffed left-luggage facility, so it is advisable to travel light or make arrangements at your accommodation. Some hotels in the town centre will store luggage for guests arriving before check-in time.

SNCF operates regional TER services connecting Bourg-en-Bresse to Lyon Part-Dieu, Geneva, and Mâcon-Loché TGV. The station serves as a key interchange point in the Ain département, with frequent departures throughout the day.

The Royal Monastery of Brou, a remarkable Gothic masterpiece with an ornate church and cloister, is around two kilometres from the station and well worth a visit. The town is also renowned for its Bresse poultry, and the covered market near the centre is an excellent place to sample local produce.

Bourg-en-Bresse itself is not served by high-speed TGV trains. The nearest TGV stations are Mâcon-Loché TGV to the north and Lyon Part-Dieu to the south, both reachable in under an hour by regional TER.
