Sachseln is a station in the canton of Obwalden in central Switzerland, located on the oeste do shore of Lake Sarnen in the Sarner Aa valley. Nicholas of Flue (1417-1487), known as Bruder Klaus, is Switzerland's patron saint. A farmer and mystic who lived as a hermit in the Ranft gorge near Sachseln, he is credited with preventing civil war among the Swiss cantons in 1481. His hermitage and tomb remain important pilgrimage destinations.
