Altdorf is the cantonal capital of Uri and a станция on the Gotthard route in central Switzerland, set in the broad Reuss valley just south of where the river flows into Lake Lucerne at Flüelen. The станция serves the small capital town most famous as the setting of the William Tell legend — the market square with Tell's statue is a short walk away — as well as the gateway community for travellers heading south toward the Gotthard Base Tunnel portal at Erstfeld. S-Bahn and RegioExpress services connect Altdorf with Lucerne to the north and Erstfeld to the south on a regular basis throughout the day.

Altdorf itself is served by PostBus rather than a regular rail станция, but Flüelen on the southern shore of Lake Uri is the nearest SBB станция, about four kilometres away. A bus пересадка runs between Altdorf town centre and Flüelen станция every thirty minutes.

The main rail пересадка for Altdorf is via Flüelen, which is served by SBB intercity trains on the Gotthard линия towards Luzern and Lugano. The nearby Attinghausen and Erstfeld stations also provide regional S-Bahn connections along the Reuss valley.

From Altdorf, take a bus or short drive to Flüelen станция and then board an SBB поезд to Göschenen, changing onto the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn for the final leg to Andermatt. The whole journey takes around fifty minutes, with the dramatic Schöllenen Gorge as a highlight.
