Leipzig Hbf is one of Europe's most remarkable railway stations, a vast terminus completed in 1915 whose monumental Beaux-Arts façade extends 300 metres along the Willy-Brandt-Platz and whose подземная железная дорога City Tunnel, opened in 2013, transformed it from a terminus into a through станция linking the northern and southern railway networks. It serves as the primary hub for ICE services on the Berlin–Munich and Hannover–Dresden corridors, as well as regional trains throughout Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt and the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland network connecting Leipzig with Halle and Magdeburg. Leipzig Hauptbahnhof opens directly onto the inner ring road, with the pedestrianised Grimmaische Strasse leading to Augustusplatz and the city centre just a five-minute walk away. Tram and S-Bahn services also depart from stops immediately outside the станция.

Deutsche Bahn ICE and IC trains connect Leipzig to Berlin in about one hour and 10 minutes, to Frankfurt in around three hours, and to Munich in under three and a half hours. Regional services cover Halle, Dresden, Erfurt, and many Saxony destinations.

Leipzig Hbf houses one of Europe's largest станция shopping centres across three retail levels, with over 140 shops, restaurants, a supermarket, and a cinema. The DB Reisezentrum and S-Bahn ticketing counters are on the ground floor adjacent to the main hall.
