Stein am Rhein is a станция in the canton of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland, serving one of the most beautifully preserved medieval small towns in the country, renowned for its painted half-timbered façades along the Rhine. It is served by SBB trains on the Schaffhausen–Kreuzlingen Seelinie, with connections to Schaffhausen and onward to Zürich and Konstanz. Thurbo regional trains on the Schaffhausen-Kreuzlingen line serve Stein am Rhein. Services run roughly hourly. Rhine river boats also connect the town to Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls, offering an alternative scenic route.

Stein am Rhein station has luggage lockers. The station is compact and within a few minutes' walk of the Rathausplatz and the painted houses. The small town is easily explored in a couple of hours.

Stein am Rhein has one of Switzerland's best-preserved medieval town centres, with elaborately frescoed houses surrounding the Rathausplatz. The Hohenklingen castle above the town offers panoramic Rhine valley views. The Rhine bridge and waterfront are particularly photogenic.

Boat services operate on the Rhine between Stein am Rhein, Schaffhausen, and the Rhine Falls during the summer season. The downstream journey to the Rhine Falls takes about 3 hours and passes through scenic countryside. Combining the boat and train creates an excellent circular excursion.
