Bratislava hl.st. (Bratislava hlavná stanica) is the main railway station of the Slovak capital, located just north of the historic city centre. It serves as the primary hub for intercity EC and IC services to Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, and Kraków, as well as domestic Slovak Railways trains throughout the country. Frequently Asked Questions
Bratislava's main station (Bratislava hlavná stanica) is about two kilometres north of the old town, and tram line 1 runs directly between the station and the historic centre in around ten minutes. Taxis and the Bolt or Uber apps are also widely available and inexpensive by Western European standards.
ZSSK and OBB operate fast services between Bratislava and Vienna Hauptbahnhof in under an hour, making it one of the shortest international rail corridors in Europe. Direct trains also run to Prague, Budapest, and Brno, with connections to the wider Central European network.
The station has a ticket hall, left-luggage facility, and a selection of shops and a restaurant on the main concourse. The building dates from 1848 and has undergone renovation, though facilities are more modest than those at larger Western European hubs.
A staffed left-luggage room is available at Bratislava hl.st. during opening hours, which typically cover the busiest parts of the day. Self-service lockers may also be available; fees are very affordable compared to elsewhere in Europe.
Bratislava's old town is compact and best explored on foot; the castle, Franciscan Church, and Primates' Palace are all within easy walking distance of each other. The city uses the euro, and card payments are widely accepted, though smaller establishments may still prefer cash.
