Genève Cornavin is the principal railway station of Geneva and one of the busiest in Switzerland, identified by UIC code 8501008. It stands at the western tip of Lake Geneva, near 46.21° N and 6.15° E, in a city that hosts the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and several hundred diplomatic missions and non-governmental organisations. Swiss Federal Railways and SNCF services share the platforms: TGV Lyria trains run to Paris, direct connections reach Lyon and Marseille, and Swiss InterCity and regional trains work eastward towards Lausanne, Bern, and Zürich. That Franco-Swiss division gives Cornavin an operating character found at few other stations, since two national railway systems are administered under one roof. Departures are timed to Central European Time in the Europe/Zurich zone, on Switzerland's 1,435 mm standard-gauge network.

Genève Cornavin is the city's main railway station and is situated directly in the centre of Geneva, a short walk from the Old Town and Lake Geneva. Trams, buses, and the Mouettes water taxis all depart from near the station, giving excellent access to every corner of the city.

SBB operates self-service luggage lockers and a staffed left-luggage counter at Genève Cornavin, located on the lower level of the main concourse. The service is available daily and handles bags of all sizes.

Direct TGV services connect Geneva to Paris Gare de Lyon in around three hours, with multiple departures each day. SBB intercity trains run to Bern, Zurich, and Basel, and regional TER services serve Lyon and other French cities across the border.

Visitors arriving at Geneva airport receive a free 80-minute public transport ticket at the baggage claim. If you are staying in a Geneva hotel, you are entitled to a free transport pass for the duration of your stay — ask at check-in for your Tout Genève transport card.

A direct rail connection links Geneva Airport to Cornavin station in around seven minutes, with trains running every few minutes throughout the day. The airport station is located beneath the terminal and is easily accessible from the arrivals hall.
