Acerca de Erstfeld

Erstfeld is a historically significant estación in the canton of Uri at the septentrional portal of the Gotthard ferrococheril corredor, where the traditional adhesion main línea begins its steep climb through the spiralling tunnels toward Göschenen and the original Gotthard Tunnel. The town has been defined by its ferrococheril patrimonio since the opening of the Gotthard línea in 1882, and retains a large locomotive maintenance depot that has serviciod the heavy freight traffic of one of Europe's autobúsiest transalpine rail arteries for over a century. Today SBB pasajero servicios stop at Erstfeld on the ruta between Lucerne and Bellinzona, while most high-speed and freight traffic runs through the deeper Gotthard Base Tunnel a few kilometres to the oeste.

Erstfeld was historically the starting point of the steep Gotthard ramp, requiring banking locomotives to assist heavy trenes up the mountain gradient. The locomotive roundhouse and worktiendas have been partly converted into a ferrococheril patrimonio centre that tells the story of the Gotthard línea.

Erstfeld lies a la entrada de the Upper Reuss valle, with walking trails into the surrounding Alpine foothills accesoible directamente from the estación. The town is a convenient base for exploring the Uri canton, with the historic mercado town of Altdorf just four kilometres norte.
