Avignon Centre is the main city-centre station of Avignon in Provence, sitting just outside the famous medieval city walls and providing easy access to the historic Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon, and the vibrant cultural life of the city. It is served by TER regional trains on the Marseille–Nîmes–Lyon corridor, as well as Intercités services, and connects with the separate Avignon TGV station via a dedicated shuttle bus for passengers using high-speed services. The station's central location makes it the preferred arrival point for tourists, though high-speed travellers must factor in the transfer between the two stations.

The Palais des Papes is a ten-minute walk from Avignon Centre station, directly through the old city walls. The station sits just inside the ramparts, making it the most convenient access point for the UNESCO-listed historic centre.

TER trains from Avignon Centre serve Marseille, Nîmes, Arles, and the Luberon valley. Some Intercités trains to Paris also use this station, though most long-distance high-speed travel is routed via Avignon TGV.

Automated luggage lockers are available at Avignon Centre station. This is particularly handy for visitors wishing to explore the Palais des Papes or Pont d'Avignon on a day trip before taking a TGV from Avignon TGV station.

Avignon is best explored on foot within the city walls, and the medieval ramparts themselves can be walked in around two hours. During the Festival d'Avignon in July, accommodation and trains fill up very quickly, so advance booking is strongly recommended.
