Saint-Imier station is small with basic facilities. The town centre is within walking distance. The funicular to Mont-Soleil, with its panoramic views and solar power installations, departs from near the station.

Saint-Imier is the birthplace of Longines, one of Switzerland's most prestigious watch brands, founded by Auguste Agassiz in 1832. The town is also notable in political history as the site of the 1872 congress of the anti-authoritarian International, attended by Mikhail Bakunin.
