Ins station is centrally located in the village, within walking distance of the main street and the surrounding Seeland agricultural area. The Great Moss (Grosses Moos) vegetable-growing region stretches around the village.

BLS regional trains connect Ins to Bern in about 30 minutes and to Neuchatel in about 20 minutes. The station is a junction on the Bern-Neuchatel line, also serving as a connection point for the Seeland region.

Ins station is a small commuter station with basic amenities. The surrounding area is the agricultural heartland of the Seeland, known for market gardening on the reclaimed marshland between the Jura lakes.

Ins is the gateway to the Seeland region between Lake Biel, Lake Neuchatel, and Lake Murten. The area is excellent for cycling along flat canal paths. The village itself has a quiet rural character, and the nearby Saint Peter's Island in Lake Biel was famously described by Rousseau.

The Seeland is Switzerland's largest vegetable-growing region, created by the Jura Water Correction project in the 19th century that drained marshland between the three lakes. The flat landscape is unusual for Switzerland and ideal for cycling. Ins sits at the heart of this productive agricultural area.
