Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is north of the river, with bus lines 1, 3, 5, 6, and 25 linking it to Mirabellplatz and the old town in around ten minutes. The Trolleybus 1 is the most direct route and runs every five minutes during the day.

Railjet and EuroCity services connect Salzburg to Vienna, Munich, Zurich, and Venice. Nightjet sleeper trains to Rome, Hamburg, and Amsterdam also depart from here, making Salzburg a well-connected overnight travel hub.

Regional trains reach Hallstatt (change at Attnang-Puchheim or Bad Ischl) in around 90 minutes and Berchtesgaden in about an hour. The Salzburg Surrounding Lakes — Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, and Fuschlsee — are доступный by bus or seasonal lake steamer connections from central Salzburg.
