Berlin Hbf is Germany's largest railway station and one of the most architecturally striking in Europe, opened in 2006 as a five-level glass-and-steel crossing of the city's north–south and east–west rail axes. It serves as the primary hub for ICE high-speed services to Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, and Cologne, as well as EuroCity and Intercity-Express international trains to Amsterdam, Warsaw, Vienna, and beyond. The station is directly integrated with Berlin's S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram, and bus networks, making it the central interchange for the entire metropolitan area.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is itself centrally located between Mitte and Tiergarten, with U-Bahn line U55 connecting directly to Brandenburger Tor and the government quarter. S-Bahn lines S5, S7, and S75 run east–west across the city, while the U5 extension now links the station seamlessly to Alexanderplatz.
Deutsche Bahn ICE trains serve Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, and international destinations including Amsterdam, Vienna, and Brussels. EuroCity services connect Berlin to Warsaw and Prague, while Nightjet sleepers depart to Vienna, Zurich, and other European cities.
Spread across five floors, Berlin Hbf contains over 80 shops, restaurants, and services including supermarkets, pharmacies, and a DB Reisezentrum for ticketing. The station also has shower facilities near the DB Lounge and extensive seating throughout its light-filled atrium.
Luggage lockers are available on the lower ground floor of Berlin Hbf, accessible 24 hours a day. A staffed left-luggage counter also operates during daytime hours for oversized items that do not fit in the lockers.
The Berlin WelcomeCard offers unlimited travel on all public transport and discounts at museums, and can be purchased at the DB ticket machines or the tourist information desk inside the station. The Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, and Tiergarten are all within comfortable walking distance of Berlin Hbf.
