इटली's हाई-स्पीड रेल नेटवर्क is one of Europe's most competitive, with two major operators running सेवाs on the main north-south corridor. Sicily is reached via the Messina Strait, where ट्रेनs board a state ferry. Sardinia has an independent narrow-gauge rail नेटवर्क (ARST/Trenino Verde) not connected to the mainland. इटली's scenic ट्रेन offerings are exceptional: the Bernina Express (shared with स्विट्ज़रलैंड), the Cinque Terre coastal line, and the historic Circumvesuviana around Vesuvius are popular with tourists.
