Romont is a small hilltop town in the canton of Fribourg with a well-preserved medieval centre, and its station lies at the foot of the hill on the main SBB line connecting Bern with Lausanne through the Fribourg Mittelland. The station is served by intercity and regional trains, offering convenient connections to both Bern and Lausanne in under an hour, and is a stop used by travellers visiting Romont's stained glass museum — one of the finest of its kind in Europe. A funicular or steep road connects the lower station area with the historic town centre perched on its distinctive rocky spur above the Glâne valley.

Romont is served by SBB regional trains on the Fribourg–Bulle and Fribourg–Lausanne lines. Trains run regularly throughout the day, with the journey to Fribourg taking around 20 minutes and to Lausanne around 40 minutes.

Romont is a small station with automated ticket machines and a waiting room. There are no staffed counters at the station itself, so tickets and reservations should be arranged in advance via the SBB app or at a larger station.

There are no luggage lockers at Romont station. Travellers needing storage should use facilities at Fribourg Hbf, which offers a full range of SBB Gepäck services and is reachable in around 20 minutes.
