Bex is a station in the lower Chablais region of Vaud, positioned on the SBB mainline between Lausanne and Brig and known locally as the departure point for the metre-gauge Bex–Villars–Bretaye railway that climbs into the Vaudois Alps. The surrounding area is historically notable for its extensive salt mines, which have been worked since the 16th century and are open to visitors, constituting one of Switzerland's oldest industrial heritage sites.
