🇫🇷 La Rochelle Ville

La Rochelle Ville station is about a 15-minute walk south of the famous old port and its medieval towers. Walking along Avenue du General de Gaulle leads directly to the harbour. Local buses also connect the station to the waterfront and the nearby Ile de Re bridge.

TGV services connect La Rochelle to Paris Montparnasse in about three hours. TER Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional trains run to Niort, Poitiers, Rochefort, and Bordeaux. The station serves as the main rail gateway to the Charente-Maritime coast and the islands.

Luggage lockers are available at the station. The station has a SNCF ticket office, a small waiting area, and basic refreshments. Its proximity to the old port makes it easy to explore the city on foot before or after a train.

The old port with its iconic Tour Saint-Nicolas and Tour de la Chaine is the city's centrepiece. The La Rochelle Aquarium is one of the largest in Europe. The Ile de Re, a popular cycling and beach destination, is accessible by bus from the station across the famous bridge.

La Rochelle has been a major Atlantic port since the 12th century and played a key role in the French Wars of Religion. The famous siege of 1627-1628 by Cardinal Richelieu is part of French literary history through Dumas' novels. The well-preserved medieval and Renaissance architecture reflects this rich past.
