Rotterdam Centraal is the main railway station of the Netherlands' second city and a landmark of contemporary architecture, with its dramatic angular glass-and-steel façade completed in 2014 replacing a post-war building that itself had replaced the station destroyed in the 1940 bombing. The station handles Intercity services across the Netherlands, Thalys high-speed trains to Brussels and Paris, and Eurostar connections to London, as well as being the hub of the Rotterdam metro and tram network. Rotterdam's position as Europe's largest port underpins the station's role as a freight and passenger gateway of continental significance.

Metro lines A, B, C, and D all serve Rotterdam Centraal, reaching Beurs and the Markthal in just one or two stops. Trams also depart from the station square, and the station exits directly onto the Weena boulevard.

Eurostar (formerly Thalys) services to Brussels, Paris, and Lille stop at Rotterdam Centraal, as do ICE trains to Cologne and Frankfurt. Intercity Direct services connect Rotterdam to Amsterdam and The Hague.

Self-service NS lockers and a staffed left-luggage service are available at Rotterdam Centraal. The station's modern design includes well-signed passenger services throughout the building.

Rotterdam Centraal was completely rebuilt and reopened in 2014 with a striking triangular stainless steel and glass canopy designed by the Benthem Crouwel / MVSA / West 8 consortium. It has won multiple architecture awards and is considered one of Europe's finest new station buildings.

The fastest NS Intercity Direct service from Rotterdam Centraal to Amsterdam Centraal takes approximately 40 minutes, while regular intercity trains take about an hour with more stops. Services run multiple times per hour throughout the day.
