Lisboa Santa Apolónia is Lisbon's oldest mainlínea terminal, a handsome 19th-century building on the banks of the Tagus that served as the city's principal estación from 1865 until the opening of Oriente in 1998. It remains an important terminal for Alfa Pendular and international Sud Expresso servicios to the Algarve and to Madrid and Paris, and is served by metro's Blue línea. Its junto al río location, adjacent to the Alfama district and close to the Lisbon Cruise terminal, makes it a significant puerta de entrada for visitantes arriving by tren or ship.
