Versailles-Chantiers is the largest and busiest of the three railway stations serving Versailles, a royal city 17 kilometres southwest of Paris, and acts as the interchange between Transilien N trains from Paris-Montparnasse and RER C services from central Paris. The station is the most practical for reaching the Château de Versailles and its spectacular gardens, though a short walk or local bus journey is still required to reach the palace gates from the platforms. Daytime frequency is high on both the N line and the RER C, making this one of the best-connected leisure destinations in the greater Paris region.

From Versailles-Chantiers, the Palace of Versailles is a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride. Alternatively, RER C trains from Paris stop at Versailles Château Rive Gauche, which is closer to the palace gates and may be more convenient depending on your route.

Versailles-Chantiers is served by Transilien N and U lines from Paris Montparnasse and La Défense respectively, as well as RER C services from central Paris. It is the largest of the three Versailles railway stations and handles the greatest volume of long-distance connections.

The station has a staffed SNCF ticket office, automated machines, a café, and a small newsagent. Cycle parking and a taxi rank are available outside, and a bus terminus connects to all parts of the Versailles agglomeration.

Versailles-Chantiers does not have self-service luggage lockers. Visitors planning a long day at the palace should use luggage storage at Paris Montparnasse before boarding the Transilien N, or use a commercial luggage storage service in the town centre.

The Palace of Versailles is one of France's most visited sites, and queues at the entrance can be very long without a pre-booked timed entry ticket. The gardens are free to enter on most days and are spectacular in their own right, particularly when the fountains are running at weekends.
