About Kandersteg
Kandersteg station is situated at the northern entrance to the Lötschberg Tunnel in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It is the boarding point for the BLS car-carrying shuttle service through the Alps to Goppenstein in Valais. The village is also a popular hiking and skiing destination in the Bernese Oberland.

BLS regional trains on the Lotschberg line serve Kandersteg. RegioExpress services connect to Bern, Thun, Spiez, and Brig. The station is also the loading point for the Lotschberg car shuttle through the base tunnel to Goppenstein on the Valais side.

The Lotschberg car tunnel shuttle carries vehicles through the mountain from Kandersteg to Goppenstein in about 15 minutes, avoiding the high mountain passes. Cars drive onto flat rail wagons at Kandersteg station. This service has operated since 1913, making it one of the oldest car shuttles in Europe.
