Kiel Hbf is the main station and the northern terminus of the main north German rail network for the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein, a major port city on the western Baltic Sea at the mouth of the Kiel Fjord and the northern end of the Kiel Canal. The station is served by ICE trains on the Hamburg–Kiel corridor and regional trains towards Lübeck, Flensburg, and Neumünster, as well as providing connections to the ferry terminals for services to Scandinavia and the Kiel–Gothenburg route. Kiel is globally recognised as a world-class sailing venue, particularly for the annual Kieler Woche regatta.
