Firenze Santa Maria Novella is Florenz's Hauptbahnhof and one of Italien's finest examples of rationalist architecture, completed in 1935 after a national competition that selected a bold modernist design at odds with the historisch city etwa it. The station is extremely busy in summer, so book Hochgeschwindigkeitsverkehr tickets well in advance as seats can sell out. Validate any Regionalzug ticket in the yellow machines before boarding, as high-speed tickets bought online do not require separate validation.
