The thermal water that gives Bad Ragaz its name rises in the Tamina gorge above the village and has been used for bathing since the Middle Ages, when it was reached only by rope descent into the ravine. The station serving the spa town, in the canton of St Gallen, is recorded as UIC 8509004 and lies on the main line between Zürich and Chur, which places both cities within about an hour. Regular InterCity and regional services call throughout the day. Beyond the baths, the resort is known for its golf courses and for an open-air sculpture triennial held in the park and surrounding countryside.
