At the southern end of the Obersee, the upper basin of Lake Zürich, Uznach is a junction in the canton of St Gallen recorded as UIC 8503116. The line between Rapperswil and Ziegelbrücke passes through it, and the route through the Ricken tunnel towards Wattwil and the Toggenburg valley branches off here. Zürich suburban services reach the station, extending the metropolitan network into a rural district of orchards and the Linth plain. The town preserves a small baroque centre and a Capuchin monastery, and the Linth canal, cut in the early nineteenth century to drain the marshes between the two lakes, runs a short distance to the east. Uznach lies near 47.22 degrees north, 8.98 degrees east.

Uznach station is centrally located in the small town of Uznach in the canton of St. Gallen, with the town centre and local amenities within easy walking distance. PostBus services also connect to nearby villages in the Linthebene.

Uznach is a smaller SBB station without dedicated luggage storage. Travellers requiring storage should plan to use lockers at a larger nearby station such as Rapperswil or Ziegelbrücke.

SBB S-Bahn and RegioExpress trains on the Zurich–Chur and Zurich–Rapperswil corridors stop at Uznach. The station provides connections to Zurich HB in around 50 minutes and to Rapperswil in approximately ten minutes.

Uznach is close to the southern tip of Lake Zurich, and Rapperswil, known as the City of Roses, is just a few minutes away by train. From Rapperswil you can take lake steamers operated by ZSG across Lake Zurich toward Zurich city and Horgen.

The surrounding Linth plain and Glarnerland offer cycling and walking routes, including paths along the Linthkanal canal. The local ski area on the Hügel ridge provides gentle slopes suitable for families, and the Linthgebiet nature reserve supports a variety of wetland birdlife.
